Apple has announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro built around its M6 processor, expanding the company's laptop line with updated compute, graphics, artificial-intelligence and wireless capabilities. Pre-orders are scheduled to open October 28, with availability beginning November 6 in space black and silver.

The M6 configuration combines a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, adding two cores to each compared with the preceding base configuration. Apple says the GPU contains a Neural Accelerator in every core, while two 16-core Neural Engines handle machine-learning work. The company positions the system for local large-language models, image processing and other workloads that can run without sending all data to a remote service.

Apple claims graphics performance is up to 30 percent faster than M5 and selected on-device AI work can be up to 25 percent faster. It also says the dual Neural Engine can reach 1.9 times M5 performance. Those figures come from Apple's own testing and depend on the application, model and system configuration; independent benchmarks were not included in the announcement.

Unified memory starts at 16GB and can be configured to 32GB, with bandwidth of up to 170GB per second. Apple also highlights faster storage for large projects and demanding AI tasks. The existing display and media hardware remain central to the product: a Liquid Retina XDR screen with an optional nano-texture finish, a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, six speakers and a selection of built-in ports.

Connectivity receives a generational update through Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours and says performance is maintained whether the notebook is connected to power or running on battery. As with the performance comparisons, real-world endurance will vary with workload, display settings and wireless use.

The laptop ships with macOS 27, which Apple says integrates its new Siri AI features with Spotlight and contextual menus. The software is designed to use information available across messages, email, photos and applications, with Apple emphasizing on-device processing and its privacy architecture. Safari organization tools, website-change notifications, photo editing and natural-language creation of Shortcuts are among the highlighted functions.

Apple is presenting the base M6 model as an upgrade for students, businesses and creators rather than a redesign of the MacBook Pro. The announcement focuses on the processor, memory throughput and connectivity while retaining the familiar 14-inch enclosure and display system. Buyers will need independent testing to determine how the advertised gains translate across professional applications, sustained workloads and battery-powered use.
